Privacy Policy
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Choplee ("we", "us"), the bill-splitting and settlement ledger available at https://choplee.com, collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information when you use our Service. We aim to collect only what we need to run the product.
This policy applies to the Choplee member application and related services operated under the Choplee brand. It covers all personal information we process, including Google user data obtained when you sign in with Google.
2. Google user data we access
Choplee offers sign-in with Google. When you choose that option, we access the following Google account data through Google's OAuth sign-in flow (basic profile information):
- Name — used as your display name in Choplee;
- Email address — used to identify your account, show membership on bills, send operational emails, and let other users find you as a friend if you appear in search;
- Profile picture — if provided by Google, may be used as your avatar metadata in the Service;
- Authentication identifiers — token and account identifiers needed to create and maintain your signed-in session.
We do not request access to your Google contacts, Google Drive, Gmail content, Calendar, or other Google Workspace data beyond this basic sign-in profile.
3. How we use Google user data
We use Google user data solely to provide and improve Choplee's user-facing features:
- authenticate you and create or maintain your Choplee account;
- display your name (and avatar, if available) to you and to people who share bills with you;
- associate bill membership, friends, circles, credits, and notifications with your account;
- send transactional or operational emails about the Service (for example, payment or credits notices);
- secure the Service and prevent abuse (for example, account integrity and rate limits).
Limited use. Google user data is used only to provide or improve Choplee functionality. We do not use Google user data for targeted, personalized, retargeted, or interest-based advertising; for selling to data brokers or information resellers; for determining credit-worthiness or lending; for creating unrelated databases; or for developing, improving, or training generalized / non-personalized AI or machine-learning models.
4. Other information we collect
- Profile & social data — friends, circles, credits balance, and settings you save in the app.
- Bill data — bill titles, amounts, member emails, split shares, settlement status, and related metadata.
- Uploaded files — receipt images and payment proof screenshots stored in our cloud storage.
- Technical data — basic logs needed for security, debugging, and service reliability (for example, error events and request metadata).
5. How we use other information
In addition to the Google user data uses above, we use Service information to:
- create, display, and settle bill collections you participate in;
- let you search for other registered users to add as friends;
- enforce credits, security, and abuse prevention;
- improve the Service and send operational notices when necessary.
6. Sharing, transfer, and disclosure of Google user data
We do not sell Google user data. We do not transfer or disclose Google user data to third parties for purposes other than providing or improving Choplee, except as described below or when required by law.
- Other Choplee users — your display name, email, and (if available) avatar may be visible to people who share a bill with you or who can find you via in-app friend search, according to app permissions.
- Service providers — we use processors that host and operate the Service on our behalf, including Supabase (authentication, database, and file storage) and our email delivery provider for transactional messages. These providers process data only to provide the Service to us and are not permitted to use Google user data for their own advertising or unrelated purposes.
- Legal requests — we may disclose information if required to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Choplee, our users, or the public.
Bill details and uploaded proofs are visible to participants in a split (for example, the bill owner and listed members) according to app permissions.
7. Storage & data protection
Google user data and other personal information are stored on infrastructure operated by our cloud providers. Security procedures are in place to protect the confidentiality and integrity of your data, including:
- encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) between your device and our Service;
- encryption at rest on our cloud provider infrastructure;
- authenticated access controls and row-level security where appropriate;
- restricted administrative access to production systems.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Retention & deletion
We retain Google user data and other account and bill data while your account is active, or for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes in this Privacy Policy, provide the Service, comply with law, or resolve disputes. When the retention period ends for a given type of data, we delete or destroy it, or anonymize it where deletion is not feasible.
You may request deletion of your data at any time by deleting your account in the app (Settings → My Profile → Delete account) or by emailing support@choplee.com. When you delete your account we permanently remove:
- your Choplee profile, Google-linked authentication identity, and credits;
- friends lists and circles you own;
- your email from other users' friends lists and from their circles (membership lists are updated so you are no longer included);
- bill collections you created, including related receipts and payment proofs;
- your membership and settlement records on bills owned by other people;
- notification history associated with your email.
To reduce abuse (for example, repeatedly deleting and re-creating accounts for free credits), the same email address cannot register a new Choplee account for 30 days after deletion. After that period you may sign up again with the same email.
9. Your choices
You can update profile fields in Settings, remove friends, sign out, or permanently delete your account at any time. New accounts complete a one-time onboarding step to acknowledge our Terms & Conditions and this Privacy Policy before using the app. You can also revoke Choplee's access to your Google account at any time in your Google Account permissions; after revocation you will need to sign in again to use Google sign-in features.
10. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. International users
Your information may be processed in countries where our providers operate. By using Choplee, you consent to that processing subject to applicable law.
12. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including when we change how we use Google user data. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as appropriate (for example, in-app notice or email). Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
13. Contact
Privacy questions, access requests, or deletion requests for Choplee can be sent to support@choplee.com. The Service is operated under the Choplee brand from Cebu, Philippines, at https://choplee.com.
